A DEF CON 30 talk presenting the first hardware analysis of a Starlink user terminal. The researcher treated the device as a “black box” and showed that its secure boot protections could be bypassed using a power-based attack.
By applying fault injection — brief voltage glitches — he disrupted signature verification during boot. This allowed extraction of firmware and full system access.
The talk also demonstrates how the attack evolved from a lab setup to a small hardware modification, enabling arbitrary code execution and deeper research into the Starlink network.
